Published by Thames & Hudson in November 2019, Type Directory is a visual encyclopaedia of type that documents more than 1800 typefaces, organised by category – Serif, Sans Serif, Display and Script – and subsequently arranged into stylistic sub-categories for ease of reference. These summaries are presented alongside contemporary and historic foundry profiles, and key typeface-focused features.
I contributed more than 380 typeface profiles for the publication, working as part of a team of four supporting writers under the lead author, Peter Dawson. Each entry was individually researched, and summarised the historical origins, formal qualities and communicative strengths of the typefaces in question.
